The 2026 Hatching
After heartbreak in 2023 and 2024 when eggs failed to hatch, the world held its breath in 2026. Sandy and Luna arrived in spring 2026 — a deeply emotional moment for millions of fans who had followed Jackie & Shadow through years of waiting. The live eagle cam has been running since 2015.
How They Got Their Names
Tens of thousands of name submissions poured in from around the world. The final selection was made by third-grade students in Big Bear Valley. Sandy honours Sandy Steers, the late former executive director of Friends of Big Bear Valley. Luna reflects the natural spirit of the region.
